Jackson-Via has numerous school-wide programs that support student learning.
*One program we are extremely proud of is called the Bully Nots. The Bully Nots were created last year by Mrs. U (school counselor) and Ms. Franklin (3rd grade teacher). The Bully Nots are a student led group that works to stop bullying at Jackson-Via. Bully Nots are “upstanders” and help defend and support students who are being bullied. They are also work to promote an anti-bullying message through song, dance, rap, skits, and the spoken word. In addition to several school-wide assemblies at Jackson-Via, the Bully Nots have performed in front of the Charlottesville City School Board, at Clark Elementary, and at Venable Elementary. We are scheduled to visit Burnley-Moran soon. Check out a video or a recent practice session so you can see the creative ways we are tackling bullying at Jackson-Via.
“A Bully has no place at Jackson-Via. If you’re feeling bullied tell us. Bully Nots will listen and defend you, and bring you to an adult you can trust.”
*SOL pep rally: Every year Jackson-Via students come together to encourage and support our 3rd and 4th grade students taking the SOL tests. In addition to a school-wide pep rally. Mrs. U performs a SOL rap with students, Mr. Hartline dresses up as the SOL King, and students parade around the building while younger students cheer them on.
